THERE, WHERE is a work in the series Conceived Landscape. A series about creation of an image.

It is written:
“…
Day unto day utters speech,
and night unto night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard
Their line has gone out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
…”

The Guerriero (Warrior) series is based on a poem of DEREK WALCOTT, poet and Nobel Prize winner, the first poem of the album “White Egrets”. Walcott wrote his poem after visiting the funerary monument of Qin Shi Huang, first emperor of China. The monument is built in 210 BC, a huge terracotta army protects the deceased emperor.

“The chessmen are as rigid on their chessboard
as those life-sized terracotta warriors whose vows
to their emperor with bridle, shield and sword
were sworn by a chorus that has lost his voice;
…” .

The sources for a work of art are always more than one. During my work on the warriors series, I was inspired by the image of the ” Warrior of Capestrano”, actually not really a warrior, a funerary statue dating back to the sixth century BC, found in 1935 in the neighbourhood of the town Capestrano, in the Abruzzo, Italy.
